Attendance Policy

To receive the maximum benefit from instruction, it is important that a child report to school each day. We realize some absences are unavoidable due to health problems or other circumstances. However, we also know that when students miss too much school excused or unexcused they can fall behind academically.

When a student is, absent from school, the parent/guardian should follow-up with a written explanation, with student’s name, date(s) of absence, and the specific reason for absence, and the signature of the parent/guardian. It is the student’s responsibility to make up all missed assignments, projects, and tests.

An absence will be considered unexcused if the parent/guardian does not contact the school. If a student has 5 unexcused absences, they will be placed on an attendance contract and the parent must conference with the Attendance Counselor. If a student accumulates 10 unexcused absences the parent and student must meet with a school administrator and the Attendance Counselor, and a referral will be made to Child & Family Services Administration.

For information on
valid reasons for school absences according to Chapter IV, Section 411.3 of the Rules of the Board of Education, please see Page 19 of the Student Handbook.
